About Double Glazed Windows

While we can supply your windows with either single or double glazed panes, double glazing is preferred for new builds and all replacement windows which are not restricted by conservation regulations.

All of our double glazed units meet or exceed energy efficiency building regulations for the UK and are available in a range of sizes and depths to fit your particular needs.

Energy efficiency depends on the amount of insulation provided by your windows and the insulation properties are determined primarily by the thickness of the glazed unit. A wider cavity – the space between the inside and outside glass – provides more insulation. Additional thermal efficiency is provided by special coatings on the inside of the glass which reflects heat back into the room.

Besides keeping your heating and cooling bills down, double glazed units also have the benefit of reducing noise and improving home security.

Frame-Ups Windows is proud to use the following suppliers for our double glazed window units:

Slimlite

Slimlite Ultra Clear and Slimlite Standard Self Cleaning Units are constructed with a clear outer self-cleaning pane with a selected cavity of 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm or 10mm. The emissivity coating is on the inside face into the cavity and reflects the long wave radiation or heat back into the room. The warm edge technology perimeter spacer incorporated, ensures insignificant differential insulation value between edge and centre glass.

Today it is necessary for double glazed units to comply with Building Regulations in respect of U Values which are slightly different between Scotland and England. Slimlite Ultra Clear and Slimlite Standard Self Cleaning Units can comply with both these regulations as noted.

Slimlite's products were recently featured in an episode of TV's Grand Designs.

Planitherm

Specially manufactured by Saint-Gobain Glass for the UK market, Planitherm products are specifically designed to keep interiors more comfortable in the winter months and improve your home's energy efficiency.

The thermal insulation provided by low-E double glazing is three times more efficient than that of standard double glazing and Planitherm products are the ideal low-e solution to meeting and exceeding the newly revised Building Regulations energy efficiency requirements.

The Planitherm range can be combined with many other Saint-Gobain Glass products, providing a multitude of high performance, multi-functional glazing options, including:

  • Self-cleaning and/or solar control glazing
  • Acoustic insulation
  • Safety and security
  • Obscured and/or decorative glazing
